Bulluck Elementary School recently held its annual Trike-A-Thon to raise money for Edgecombe County Relay for Life. Four years ago, Pre-K teacher Pam Kaczmarek came up with the idea of the trike-a-thon and has been responsible for the event each year.
Students from three prekindergarten classes and the school day care raised more than $4,000 that they donated to the local Relay chapter.
Family and friends of the riders were asked for donations three weeks prior to the event and students sold lemonade and cookies the day of the Trike-A-Thon.
The bus parking lot at the school was used, and a circle was roped off as the track. The event was held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the students rode their tricycles until they were tired. All students at Bulluck Elementary were invited to come for snacks and to cheer for the riders.
Relay For Life, the American Cancer Society's signature event, is a fun-filled overnight experience designed to bring together those who have been touched by cancer.
The efforts of volunteers and donors support research, education, advocacy, and services that allow the American Cancer Society to offer help and hope to people across the country when they need it most. Since 1996, the Edgecombe County Relay for Life has raised $1,841,022.29.
This year's local event took place on May 2 at Tarboro High School.
