Three Poems
Only Temporary
Lightning strikes.
Children awaken.
Power off.
Darkness.
Nothing.
One child remains hopeful.
Soon, power returns
And the clock starts blinking.
12:00
Open Your Eyes
See Spot run.
But can Spot see where he is running?
No. Silly Spot has his eyes closed.
Now see Spot run ...
Straight into the wall.
Tsk, tsk. Silly Spot.
Just a Precaution
Stop just in case.
No one is coming,
But do it anyway.
Just as a precaution.
It never hurts.
Unadulterated loathing
By Duncan Barnes, Rocky Mount Academy
Turned into obsequious slaves.
Retaliation is out, out of the question.
In this inimical world of accursed social
cohesion
Retaliation is out, out of the question.
No.
Turning to rage
Twisting the knot inside, the final strains
of restraint discharged.
Acceleration of loathing, driving my
physical force.
A ball of hatred
I cross the t's.
Terrible Day
By Joey Przelomski, third grad, OLPH Catholic School
I woke up early to go to school
But my cat scratched me.
I thought it would be a
terrible day.
At breakfast my sister got all of the fruit juice.
Mom had forgotten to buy
more because of a storm.
I thought it would be a
terrible day.
When we got to school we were
almost an hour early.
I thought it would be a
terrible day.
Now, I thought it could not get
any worse but,
To tell the truth it did.
We ran out of gas and had to
Push the car home.
It was a horrible day.
I was in so much pain.
Let's move to a place on this
continent with
Mountains and good weather.
